President’s Message

What an honor to be a part of our Bennett Alumni Association. Our present group’s roots look back to 1999 when a small group of alumni approached then-principal Marilyn Wittman with an idea for developing an association dedicated to providing time, treasure, and talent to enhance the education of current students. These roots were planted deep, but, in fact, our roots go back further and deeper.

Our roots go right back to the laying of the cornerstone of Bennett in 1923. A ceremony that promised The Best is Yet to Be. Our roots grew stronger with the first groups of students who ventured through the doors of our School on the Hill in 1925, seeking the best education possible. Those roots were nourished by friendships that lasted a lifetime. That sustenance was found in the best classes and teachers, the best clubs, sports, and, most importantly, the best memories and stories. Through the hard times and the good times, we could always count on the strength of Bennett High School.

Occasionally, storms blew strong, but because we were so securely planted, we could weather difficulties. We have seen that in the past year and a half. Because of our school leadership and the support of many alumni, we are back stronger than ever.  Your support, as we return to in-person learning, is crucially important. We are called to provide the resources to bridge the gaps of urban education. These gaps are more pronounced and more evident because of the COVID pandemic.

Your dues are what make it possible for the Bennett Alumni Association to continue our mission. We can provide immediate support for our students and staff.

For the long-term, we are delighted to announce the formation of our Bennett Alumni Endowment Fund. A gift to the endowment fund, beyond your regular contribution, will guarantee funds that will provide for Bennett forever. There’s more information on the website.

We are all indeed fortunate that our Bennett High School tree has been planted in such fertile soil and has been tended so carefully and expertly. I hope you will continue to be such good caretakers of Bennett. If you need anything, please feel free to send me a message at [email protected].
